BHP Billiton expects to book $4.9-billion writedown on U.S. shale assets

BHP Billiton has announced an expected impairment charge of approximately $4.9 billion post-tax—approximately $7.2 billion pre-tax—against the carrying value of its onshore U.S. assets. According to the company's website, BHP has operations in the Eagle Ford and Permian basin in Texas, the Fayetteville shale in Arkansas and the Haynesville shale in Louisiana. ...»
